The Wanderer

20.10.2023

The Wanderer is probably the most famous work of art in Hamburg. On loan in Winterthur, from where it returned, in December 2023, to bring a no less well-known painting with him to Hamburg the chalk cliffs on Rügen. Both works are by Caspar David Friedrich and are extremely rarely borrowed. The fact that it worked this time is certainly due to the special occasion: Caspar David Friedrich's 250th birthday celebrated in 2024.

From December 2023, the Hamburger Kunsthalle dedicated an extensive retrospective to the artist with “CASPAR DAVID FRIEDRICH: Art for a New Age”. This retrospective clearly focuses on one question - that of the relationship between humans and nature. The Hamburger Kunsthalle is thus focusing on a topic that concerns us all in the face of climate change. This can also be seen in contemporary works of art! Friedrich's motifs and themes are currently being taken up and further developed in a variety of ways.

Our team produced various tours for the exhibition: for adults in German, English and in easy language, with audio description and, for the first time in the Hamburger Kunsthalle, also in German Sign Language (DGS). Of course there is also a special children's tour! All tours were written and developed by the soundgarden team.
