"Planet Ocean" is one of Germany's most successful exhibitions, catapulting the Gasometer Oberhausen into the top five most visited museums in Germany! At the end of November 2025, the underwater show will close, making way for new natural phenomena on land. The focus will be on various forest regions of our planet: from Brazil to the Congo and on to Europe.
The new exhibition, "Myth of the Forest," opens on March 20, 2026, and will immerse visitors in the fascinating world of green. Visitors will discover majestic giant trees, colorful slime molds, wolves, elephants, birds, and many other animal and plant species. Highlights will include a sound and light installation developed specifically for the Gasometer. And as the grand finale, a never-before-realized art installation featuring a roughly 40-meter-high tree, complete with its root system, is planned. The exhibition will be complemented by insights into the lifestyles of indigenous peoples and information about the devastating consequences of slash-and-burn agriculture and intensive farming practices.
"With the new exhibition, we also want to raise awareness for the state of our planet, communicate complex topics in an accessible way, and stimulate public debate",
emphasizes Jeanette Schmitz, curator of "Mythos Wald" (Myth of the Forest) and Managing Director of Gasometer Oberhausen GmbH.
soundgarden is very excited to be producing the audio guide tours for this fascinating exhibition!
